The answer obviously enough is it depend on who does it. If is is the media, who endless canvass ones opinions on matters ranging from the trivial to the moronic, then it is fine. It might even be is informative, and possibly you never know educational. It is also in this case quite uncensored, and if any suggestion by the general public is dimissed, then this is an editorial decision. If by contrast the politicians are doing the asking, it is of dubious use and a possible waste of public money. And all attempt to restrict what is asked is of course in this case censorship .
